Website Terms of Use

1. Who I am and what these terms cover

These websites — my personal site, the Smart Money, Strong Women book site and the Second Spring project — are run by me, Sarah Roughsedge, an author, speaker and financial wellbeing educator trading as a sole trader in the UK. By using these sites you agree to these terms. If you don't agree with them, please don't use the sites. You can contact me at hello@sarahroughsedge.com.

2. Education, not financial advice

This is the most important section, so let me be direct:

Everything on these sites — articles, books, quizzes, calculators, events and emails — is education and general information only. It is not financial advice, and nothing here is a personal recommendation to buy, sell or do anything with your money.

These sites and my work on them are not regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. If you need advice about your own situation — investments, pensions, mortgages, tax or anything else — please speak to a regulated financial adviser. You can find one through the FCA register (register.fca.org.uk) or MoneyHelper (moneyhelper.org.uk). Any decisions you make with your money are yours, and you make them at your own risk.

3. Quizzes and calculators

The Money Mindset Quiz, the Motherhood Money Calculator and any similar tools give illustrative results based only on what you type in. They are conversation starters, not projections you should rely on — real outcomes will differ.

4. Buying my books

Book purchases happen on external retailers' websites (such as Amazon or Waterstones) under their own terms. I'm not responsible for their sites, pricing, delivery or service.

5. My content and copyright

The words, images, tools and design on these sites (and my books) are my copyright or used with permission. You're welcome to share links, and to quote short excerpts with credit. Please don't republish, copy or sell my content without my written permission — just ask.

6. Sharing your story (Second Spring)

If you submit a story to Second Spring:

• Your story must be your own, true to your experience, and must not identify other people in a way that could harm them
• By ticking the consent box you give me a licence to edit (for length, clarity and anonymity) and publish your story, anonymised, as part of the Second Spring book and related project
• Submissions are anonymous by design — I don't collect your name or email, so I can't link a published story back to you or withdraw a specific story on request. Only share what you're comfortable being published
• I may choose not to publish a story, and I can remove any story from the project at my discretion

Please don't submit anything unlawful, hateful, or that belongs to someone else.

7. Accounts and community

Where these sites offer accounts or community features:

• You must be at least 18 and give accurate details
• Keep your password to yourself and tell me if you think someone else has used your account
• Be kind — no harassment, abuse, spam or unlawful content
• I may remove content or suspend accounts that break these rules

8. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Use the sites for anything unlawful
• Try to gain unauthorised access to any part of the sites or their data
• Interfere with or disrupt the sites, or scrape them at scale
• Impersonate me or anyone else

9. What I'm responsible for (and what I'm not)

I run these sites carefully, but as one person with a small website — not a large company — there are sensible limits:

• The sites are provided "as is" — I can't promise they will always be available or error-free
• I'm not liable for losses from decisions you make based on educational content on these sites (see section 2 — get regulated advice for your own situation)
• I'm not responsible for external websites I link to
• I'm not liable for indirect losses, or losses I couldn't reasonably have foreseen

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability that can't legally be limited or excluded — such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Nothing here affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

10. Changes

I may update these terms from time to time. The current version, with its "Last updated" date, is always on this page.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and any disputes will be dealt with by the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring proceedings in your local courts.
